Elk, or Wapiti, were gifted to New Zealand by President Roosevelt in 1909, with 20 animals being released in George Sound, Fiordland in the South Island. These massive animals are a great prize to any hunter. 

There a very few free range pure Wapiti left in New Zealand and are restricted to just a handful of places left in New Zealand. However, we have access to amazing trophy Wapiti/Elk on private property which has seen great Bulls been taken out of.
