We want you to get the best out of your hunt so although Doddsy's Hunting predominantly focus on Red Stag, Tahr, Fallow and Chamois, we are flexible so you can also hunt any of the other animals below.

Your hunting guide can take you out any time from the start of February to the end of August for most animals listed below.

HUNTING REGION

As a hunting ground, New Zealand’s Southern Lakes produces some of the largest Red Stag in the world, making it a fantastic region for any hunting enthusiast and for guided hunting tours.

 

Doddsy’s Hunting has access to 30,000 acres of private land for Red stag, Fallow and Elk, and 100,000 acres of prime Tahr area near Mt Cook, but also access to many other hunting concessions around the Southern Lakes to make your big game hunt successful and enjoyable.

 

The New Zealand hunting season covers Summer (February – March), Autumn/Fall (April – June) and Winter (July – August) which means that the weather and climate during this season is varied.

 

In Summer, you can expect a climate of 70 - 90ºF and warm, sunny weather, while in Autumn/Fall and Winter you can expect a climate 20 - 70ºF and significantly cooler weather.

 

These hunting grounds showcase some of the best New Zealand scenery available, with breath taking country views making a perfect backdrop for supreme hunting tours.

FIREARMS AND EQUIPMENT

Barry or Tony Dodds, your hunting guide, can supply your firearms and ammunition, or you are welcome to provide your own. Calibre between 270 – 300 win mag are suitable for hunting in

New Zealand.

 

If you wish to use your own equipment, you will require a firearms import permit ($25NZD). These can easily be obtained from www.police.govt.nz. This permit does not allow for handguns which may be used on safaris hunting elsewhere in the world.
